The idea is for people to pool experience and support each other to become better seed savers.

And grow lots of fresh, delicious vegetables!

The Powell River Seed Project 2009 encourages everyone to grow their favorite vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers. Save and share the seeds at Seedy Saturday or through this network.

On the blog, people can exchange information and write about their experiences, growing plants, and successfully saving their seeds.

The Project committee has selected a variety of approximately 30, high quality types of beans, peas, beets/chard, squash and pumpkins that dedicated growers can obtain and grow out for themselves and the project.

There are many choices of excellent varieties of vegetable cultivars, so we asked a small group of local market gardeners for their suggestions. It was difficult to select just 30 varieties!

However this will help focus the project on successful outcomes of several important vegetable crops, suitable for Powell River.

Meanwhile, pore over your seed catalogs, make your own choices for the coming growing year. Or try growing plants from our list of selected cultivars.

Visit the blog, frequently, share information and experiences, as we ‘grow’ together.

Have a great growing/seed saving season ahead!
